Get ready to tackle these toothy game fish as the season begins now in September as these ferocious fighters begin their spawning period.
For those of you have never visited the vast shore of Lake Jozini, (also known as Pongolapoort) I encourage you to do so.
This corner of God's earth doesn't only offer the angler a variety of quarry, but it also rich in bird and animal life both in the water and on the land.

We recently had the opportunity of visiting Shayamoya, and let me tell you I was once again pleasantly surprised by the hospitality of the lodge, the comfort of the rooms and best of all the amazing food the chef prepares, especially the suppers.
We arrived at Shayamoya on probably the coldest winter's day recorded in Zululand in at least the last decade, planning to catch some tigers to kick off the newly revamped ESA freshwater show. Yip, winter for tigers!!!
Anyway as luck would have it the next morning we were greeted with clear skies, a slight chill in the air and once on Lake Jozini, hungry tigers. Yip you read that correctly, the tigers were hungry and wasted no time in attacking our spoons. In fact I have yet to experience a better day on the Lake and I mostly only fish it during the hot summer months when the tigers are known to feed best.
We managed to land some good size fish, one of 2,8kgs and one of 3,2 kilos with a few in the 1,5 kilos range aswell. We only got to spend 2 days fishing and probably caught 60 tigers between 4 of us, unfortunately a huge cold front pulled through cutting our planned 4 days of fishing to 2 very memorable days.
Ryan, Shayamoya's head guide, is a phenomenal fishing guide who can seriously put you onto fish, even during winter so next time you wondering where to go fishing for some explosive action, head to Shayamoya and get onto Lake Jozini.
