 What a challenging and rewarding year it has been! Shayamoya's visitors and our very dedicated staff have made 2011 such a memorable year! Due to the state of the world economy with the resulting pressure on the tourism industry, our challenge has been adapting to the situation and we have been very successful with the tour packages and itineraries we have created.
For the months of August, September and October, we were privileged to host international anglers, "Fishing with Larry" from USA.
Besides the fishing, birding and game viewing at Shayamoya, we entertained them with guided rhino walks, realistic cultural trips into rural areas, SPA treatments, day trips to Hluhluwe
visiting the Big 5 Game Reserve, Emdoneni Cheetah Project, the Zulu Croc Farm, Zulu
craft shopping at Ilala Weavers, and day trips with Swazi Trails to Swaziland.

My family and I are really enjoying being back in the bush where we hear jackals calling at night or we have the famous resident Spotted Eagle Owl, Nandi, landing on our heads to say hello. We still have hectic traffic en-route to school in the morning; giraffe, kudu, impala, warthog, and not to mention the kamikaze dung beetles!

The only waters in SA home to the ferocious fighting tiger
fish where the record is 8.3kg. The season runs from September through to May. Fed by the Pongola River, the Lake (also known as Pongolapoort) covers an area of 20 000 ha. Bring your own boat or rent one and fish with our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides. Boats and tackle available for hire. |
